In 2020, when we had to work from home, the borders were closed and everyone worked online, we launched the service of online interpreting.

Assessment

Technically, the possibility of remote interpreting (including simultaneous interpreting of a high complexity level) was available a long time ago; our company had been experienced in it. However, under the new circumstances, it became vitally important for effective negotiations with foreign partners.

Process

Online interpreting can be both consecutive and simultaneous. The tool is selected depending on the functions, budget and tasks; it can be Skype, or the popular Zoom events platform with an audio channel for simultaneous interpreting, or specialized platforms for remote simultaneous interpreting (RSI), which have all the required functions and provide a high level of security.

Outcome

During the pandemic, one of our first online projects was providing interpretation of the online presentation and negotiations to our American customer, Gecko Robotics, a company developing inspection robots. The customer was in the United States, his partners – in France, the interpreter and the project manager – in Russia. Everyone was happy: The customer, with our help, sealed the deal remotely; the interpreter got a long-awaited job order amid the pandemic-caused recession.
